Waiting in Expectation

Before school, my daughter and I fill out The Prayer Journal to ease anxiety and practice “casting our cares on the Lord” (1 Peter 5:7). The Prayer Journal is just an old notebook in which we make a list of concerns and requests to God for whatever we’re nervous about for the day.

I think about Psalm 5:3 where David claims:

In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning, I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

It’s been such an enormous pleasure to enjoy after school snack, open The Prayer Journal, and see how God responded to our needs. Sometimes, we see profound and unexpected answers to prayers. Other times, we experience the divine no that brings us again to the goodness and sovereignty of God even if things don’t go our way.

I love this exercise to build faith, to connect with God as the daily supply of our needs, and to live lives of expectation of His care and attention. How marvelous that He “hears our voice” and answers!
