I Write to Revise

I think about writing as rearranging the day, revising experiences for meaning and beauty, and positioning ordinary moments until I find wisdom there.

Writing the words down firms everything up, like batter baked into a fragrant, warm cake I can decorate, slice, and eat as dessert.

Writing gathers all the weeds into a wildflower bouquet or takes pebbles and forms a pathway. Or, at its best, writing takes all the broken shards and creates a mosaic that we can observe and enjoy as art.

Without writing, nothing takes shape for me. It’s a way of revising every moment until I can read what it says and know what it means.

And then I share it with you.
