I remember the first time I read Joshua 3:5 where the text reads, “Joshua told the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you’.” This statement predicts the miracle of God parting the waters of the Jordan so the Israelites could cross on dry land.
I wondered what it must have felt like to have someone say that something amazing was going to happen the next day. Perhaps nobody slept a wink that night because they knew that morning would mean a miracle. I remember feeling hope rise up in me and a sense of joy and expectation because I served a God who worked wonders, who specialized in amazing things, and whose power was unlimited.
