All these Searchings and Hungerings and Longings

You know how it goes: You’re 40 years old in a glamorous city, and you’re alone in a coffee shop, sipping coffee and thinking about your whole life. And you have these flashes of memories of the girl you were and wanted to be, and you think about a lifetime of Searchings and Hungerings and Longings.

And, because you don’t feel that kind of angst and fragility anymore–where everything made you cry from either pain or joy–you settle into your life with a peace you don’t think there’s a word for.

And because you remember that one day, your surrendered–as deeply and as completely as you knew how–to God, you’re in the coffee shop and only want to think about God and worship Him. So you read Absolute Surrender by Andrew Murray.

He writes, “God comes and offers to work this absolute surrender in you. All these searchings and hungerings and longings that are in your heart, I tell you they are the drawings of the divine magnet, Christ Jesus.”

That’s what is was, always. All this life, a divine magnet.
