Kate’s Lemon Tree

After church, we transplanted Kate’s lemon tree that she grew from seed.

It felt so joyous and so peaceful to stand in the kitchen and marvel over roots and stems and leaves.

There’s something so vital about watching things grow, about cultivating patience, and about rejoicing over growth in nature. It grounds us to ancient processes and to a Creator who designed lemon trees with such shiny, beautiful leaves.

Plus, we always think of the tart lemon, and hardly any child can picture the tree from which it grew.

Now we can. This one sits by my office near a south-facing window. I’ll watch it grow for years.
