Back to the Vernal Pond: Egg Mass Identification

I’m learning more and more and filled with wonder as I explore nature in Pennsylvania. Today, I return to the vernal pond in the woods that miraculously appears in the spring and calls to the spotted salamanders and wood frogs to return to lay their thousands and thousands of eggs. If you look closely, you’ll see the masses of eggs in the water. In a month, the pond will erupt with frogs and salamanders. What a peaceful, marvelous treasure in the forest!

I’m not certain, but as I investigate the egg masses and compare them to images online, I believe it’s the spotted salamander and wood frog I’m seeing. I’ll know next month when they hatch!
