Back to Life

I love how the forest seems to come back to life in springtime (although a winter forest offers its own kind of vibrancy). I run my palm over the soft fern moss, so aware of its ability to harmonize with the seasons. I even love the sound of the word for it—poikilohydry—which refers to how moss equilibrates its water content with what’s around it.

Moss suspends so much inside of itself until the time is right, and then with enough spring rain, sun, and warmth, it announces a change with the brightest green against the brown of winter’s decaying leaves. This will happen to us all. When we feel dessicated inside, just keep soaking in everything available to you of God’s love and care. Spring will come. It always does.

Soak in the spring! I breathe in the cool forest air and thank God for the Living Water that refills, rehydrates, and revives every desiccated part within us.
