This morning I read Psalm 84:11. I took a picture of it and texted it to my daughters to enjoy. I told my husband about it. Then, I wrote about it in my journal. Now, I’m telling you. After you read it, consider a person you might tell who needs it desperately today. Consider memorizing it for what it reveals about God.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.—Psalm 84:11
Written during a time of exile, this psalm reveals God as a sun(warmth, comfort, illumination, care) and a shield (protection, covering). He allows us to find favor in places where we need it. Hehonors us before others. Finally, He gives good gifts. If it’s a good thing for us, He will give it.
I consider the day ahead and the areas of my life. Think of your own. Where do you need God as your sun? As your shield of protection? Where might we ask Him to give us favor and honor? How can we recognize and thank Him for His good gifts?
